My name is Suzy. I was born in Kuwait and up until my teenage years I spent my time between Bucharest and Athens. I went to University in Paris and like many before me, discovered food. I spent my 20’s in London where I completed a year-long Food and Wine Diploma at Leiths. Afterwards I worked a short while at Food & Travel Magazine before settling in at Melrose and Morgan for 4 years.
Then came my first child, I moved to Berlin where I started the blog Foodie in Berlin to fill in the thousands of food questions I had (which no one seemed to be able to answer).
Now it’s Barcelona. I have started as I did in Berlin in 2009, one place at a time, mapping out the city until I am fluent in where to eat, where to get a coffee and where to find that elusive ingredient.
About Foodie in Barcelona…
15 years ago, my interest was in restaurants that had a Michelin star. I was living in London at the time and ticked them off on a monthly basis: Fat Duck, Gordon Ramsay,The Ledbury, Benares. Eating like this is beautiful, it is an experience but it takes a long time (time is something I never have with 3 children) and it’s expensive. At a certain point the foie gras with chocolate or fig or balsamic reduction or Sauterne – all started to blend together in my mind.
In the last few years, first in Berlin and now in Barcelona I am increasingly drawn to simple fare and flavours. If they don’t have a sous vide machine – well – it’s probably better. I am as happy dipping greasy churros into chocolate or tucking in to a plate of Santa Pau beans with a proletariat chistorra. Why not? It’s honest.
I am an opinonated blogger. Yes, I try to take nice pictures but this is a content led blog where I am honest about my experiences. Of course this blog illustrates my likes and dislikes – it is an entirely subjective thing so you may find your taste is entirely different to mine.
Lastly, I pay for my own meals. Foodie in Barcelona is me eating my way through the city and discovering it this way.
In terms of eating, Barcelona is huge, it’s a monster, I feel like I am trying to unravel a ball of sticky twine, so if you have a favourite place you think I should visit. Drop me a line!
