Eat My Trip, Brunch in Eixample

27th September 2018 Leave a Comment

Eat My Trip offers Brunch in Eixample. Of all the food categories out there, brunch, in particular, has an affinity with Instagram. There is something inexplicably mesmerizing about a pert orange yolk being pierced and oozing out, lava-like.

A green waffle with egg, Brunch in Eixample Wild and wacky brunch dishes like green waffles with eggs at Eat My Trip Brunch in Eixample

The breakfast bowls, like miniature edible Japanese rock gardens. Do you eat delicately, a spoonful with shaggy coconut another with pumpkin seeds or do you unceremoniously muddle the lot into a sloppy lumpy mess? A tower of pancakes. The boxy depressions of waffles. They are green here, coloured with Matcha, topped with that egg, a lacquered rasher of bacon and a toussle of rocket.

Drink at Eat My Trip Brunch in EixampleEat My Trip is known for striking cakes and cheesecakes inspired by Genia’s travels around the world.

Eat My Trip – so called because the menu is made up of inspirations from Genia’s (the young owner’s) travels – is visually led. That tower of pancakes? At Eat My Trip you can have yours with cream, chocolate sauce, chocolate chips, fruit and wearing an upturned ice cream cone, placed jauntily to the side. They do a blue-hued cheesecake coloured with spirulina. Even the most pedestrian of breakfast plates are transformed into off the wall creations full of vivid colours and unusual combinations. If Willy Wonka had a granddaughter and that granddaughter opened up a brunch place it would probably be a lot like Eat My Trip. And Brunch in Eixample is much needed.

Eat My Trip seen from the outside Genia started off making show-stopping American style cakes: high, their crowns loaded with confectionary or decoration, often with a distinctive drip around the edges – before getting into the brunch scene. (You should have a look at her Cake Gallery on Facebook for some jaw-dropping designs.) She was joined by Ksenia and together the two are bringing their distinctive visual style to the can’t-get-enough-of-brunch public.

Wall Paper at Eat My Trip There is not one person tucking into their food at Eat My Trip without snapping a photo first. The median age of the customers is young, female with a tendency to wear their hair long and straight. They’ve probably come angling for a high volume Instagram shot and ended up enjoying it more than they expected.

Because Genia & Ksenia approach everything on the menu with seriousness and dedication. And an extra dose of fun.

📍Batea Barcelona — Gran Via, 605 Michelin 202 📍Batea Barcelona — Gran Via, 605
Michelin 2025 recommended and absolutely deserved.

Between the Betanzos tortilla drowning in prawn head jus and the delicately plated ceviche, Batea balances tradition with a polished, confident creativity. It’s seafood-forward but far from predictable.

Highlights:
🦐 Tortilla with prawns
🥒 Flawless ceviche
🥖 Bread + algae butter = don’t skip it
🌿 Falafel of algae & bluefin tuna (!)

Their design nods to the nostalgic brasseries of old, but this is very much Barcelona now. Grab a table. Order generously.

Contracorrent Bistró has a new (ish) spot in Grà Contracorrent Bistró has a new (ish) spot in Gràcia. A melding of Catalan and Italian flavours and a focus on ingredients. As highlighted by the row of vines from the family estate that are suspended from the ceiling.
The choice is between two tasting menus. Of course my friend and I selected the largest one!
A flurry of small plates and bowls ensued. Just the way I like it, lots of variety but I didn’t have to waddle out of there.
The warm and knowledgeable service was the cherry on top.

I feel like the one coffee shop per block thing ha I feel like the one coffee shop per block thing has been done ad nauseam - instead I would like to petition for one cheese shop per block. Found this darling one on the corner from one of my favourite restaurants.
What about you? Do you think we have reached peak coffee shop saturation in the city?

Of course the tomato tartar with mackerel continues to make me happy.

Something for the weekend @tangana_restaurant beca Something for the weekend @tangana_restaurant because it’s chef led, with good chairs and just the right feeling. Gilda - yes. And the Mitake mushroom but with way more colour then this picture - I hadn’t realized that apricot panna cotta is what’s missing from my life - (not pictured because the best moments often aren’t captured.)
