Can Pizza El Prat was a tip-off from Green Mamma. Not a direct tip-off – more an Instagram photograph that piqued my appetite. The highly graphic fonts, the colourful arm tattoos – was that a wood fired oven in the back? And this place was where? In El Prat? Good thing for geo tagging.
When I finally manage a visit to Can Pizza El Prat, I get chatting to the amiable waiter – I ask about the choice of El Prat?
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a town I like. A mix of agricultural land, a lake, a river, a beach – everything you need really but it seems to be populated by a solidly local population. Who might not see the sense in a wood fired pizza for 12 when they can get a Telepizza for – well – truthfully I have no idea how much a Telepizza goes for?
“Well” he begins “it is a collaboration between a guy that owns Santy’s in Sitges and the Colombo brothers that have Xemei in Barcelona.”
“Xemei…? Oh Xemei, Xemei?!” I ask. “The Venetian tapas place in Poble Sec?”
“Yes.”
“Ok – wow – good pedigree. So why are they in Prat de Llobregat again?”
“Because one of them is from here.” He goes on to say that there is also a chiringuito on the beach and something else. I am intrigued that there is a portfolio of ventures and venues that are not marketed as coming from the same group, since surely that would be an easier sell.
It’s an unusual space, next door to a functioning garage- possibly once a garage itself. A low , one story building with an old olive tree in the courtyard. It’s red and white with unfamiliar Italian produce and brands lining the shelves to enhance and decorate the space.
The place mat stands in for the menu and has a clever column off to the side called ‘Wiki Pizza’ which includes things like Ciccioli, Guanciale and Scamorza.
We get a Margherita, a spicy one and an eggplant with ricotta. The dough is abundant, it is thick, has chew and texture. Not a pizza that one person can get through, at least not any of the people at our table, not because it is wide across but because it is thick.
Regardless, we can not resist the artisanal ice cream we have seen inside. Chocolate, cold, dense and fudgy which comes out in an unmarked glass jar.
It’s a fab find I think, as much because of the styling of the place as the thick bottomed wood fired pizza.

Hello,
We are a travel agent in New York. We have a group of 60 guest plus 2 group leaders and 2 tour guides looking for a restaurant for lunch on April 28 in Barcelonia. Are you able to serve 64 people at 12:30pm-1:30pm? If so, please suggest a 2 course lunch with your better cost for us. We just want a casual lunch with lower cost.
Your prompt response will be highly appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi Gracie, you are writing to me, Suzy, who wrote the review of the restaurant, not the restaurant. Also this restaurant is in El Prat de Llobregat – which is a suburb of Barcelona.
