Tast a La Rambla Barcelona 2018

8th June 2018 6 Comments

Tast a La Rambla Barcelona 2018
Tast a la Rambla is in on this weekend. From the 7th to the 10th of June, the bottom part of the Rambla is host to 50 stands where you can try a tapa from some of the best-loved restaurants and tapas bars in Barcelona.

This year the stands are divided into 6 categories:
Tapes i Platillos – tapas and small plates
Cuina Tradicional – traditional cooking
Illa Pastisseria – patisserie island (yes please!)
Cuina d’author – signature style dishes by well-known chefs
Asia Street Food
Patrocinadors / Collaborators – patrons and collaborators

Tast a La Rambla Barcelona 2018 dish I was all over the Asian section (obviously). I loved the rice (there was a lot of rice at Tast a la Rambla) from Casa Xica with the kimchi folded through.

The beetroot berry pastry from Maria Selyanina.

4€ for a tapa, 2€ for a drink. Make sure to buy the tokens before you line up!

Enjoy.

xx Suzy

Love the whole idea but hate to have to buy tokens before. How do you decide how much you are going to spend? The only people that benefit from this are the organisers. Queue to buy tokens and then queue for food. We ended up eating on Calle Ample.

I think it’s so they don’t have to have cash tills and it’s easier for the people who have the stalls. I think it’s a good idea but I think you should be able to have an app where you prepay and then you can just pay with your phone -because that’s the future. Then you don’t have to line up. I went today for lunch and there was no line for tokens really…

They do such a good job in Barcelona with these events. There is something every month. More than a few things in fact.

We were overly ambitious with the tokens and they don’t do refunds. But we sold them to a nice couple who were appreciative to not stand in line. Not a thing for the vegetarian though, hence the leftover tokens.

Hi Hiromi, I didn’t think about it from a vegetarian point of view but yes, your options would have been limited to desserts. Good you found someone to sell the tokens to.

Dinner was comprised of small exquisite plates with surprising and delightful textures and concepts.

Had a banter with Abel from @colmado_giner who explained to me that Reus was the entry point for Vermut to enter Spain. I find myself retuning often to this town. With a population of around 100k (another Abel statistic) there are plenty of charming quality places to eat and drink.

In addition to these dishes - there were another 3 brown coloured plates. And though Instagram won’t reward us for it - brown is where the flavour is at.

Returned to Restaurant Margarit in Poble-sec for a Returned to Restaurant Margarit in Poble-sec for a second visit — and it was just as good, if not better.
Greek-rooted, Barcelona-based cooking that’s thoughtful, balanced, and quietly confident.

I wrote about my first visit on the blog, and this follow-up felt like a confirmation rather than a comparison.
The orzo with prawns is as rich and flavourful as I remembered.
The berenjena with yogurt and pistachio still stands out for its contrast and texture.
The flor de calabacín is delicate and well-judged.
And the tulumba — light syrup, pistachio, and saffron cream — ends things beautifully. As a non-dessert dessert person Margarit is turning out to know exactly how to balance a sweet ending.

Reliable, elegant cooking in a calm and inviting space.

At Cal Pau Xich, it’s marble tabletops, bentwood chairs, Estrella bottles next to vintage motorbikes, and mirrors that whisper stories of another era.

The food? Honest and generous. Creamy mushroom lasagna. Chargrilled lamb chops with padron peppers. A silky flan with a dollop of cream that tastes like someone’s abuela still works the kitchen.

A proper Catalan gem that doesn’t fuss, just feeds you well.

Minimalist, confident, and just the right kind of cool. The kind of place where the coffee’s excellent, the croissants are glossy, and yes — they serve an iced coffee with olive oil.

Design-led, barista-driven, and packed to the rafters with oat milk. A must if you like your coffee with a bit of bite and a lot of style.
