Two years ago, Matt opened the first Fermentation Superstore in Barcelona. Olives, wine, bread and cured sausage are the limits of fermented foods here. So there was a lot of aquainting necessary between Ferment 9 and Barcelona. And because Matt is meticulous in all he endeavours, his exhaustive list of things probiotic and prebiotic won the city over. Obbio stocks a range of Ferment 9 products now. Ferment 9 spilled intentionally into the space next door, providing more storage. Therefore creating possibility for expansion.
And then, on the same street as the Flax & Kale with the “fermentation chamber”, Ferment 9 stroke 2 opened! This shop has on on site kitchen that prepares take away food. Things like giant Banh Mi sandwiches filled with Rooftop Smokehouse pork and a generous serving of house made Dragon Kimchi. Or a bowl with sauerkraut on one side and Kojac noodles on the other. Marina is the young chef that makes everything to order while the customer can look on.
There is a huge counter of fermented goods on the opposite side. Everything is represented. You can order as much or as little as you want. More variations of sauerkraut then you can fathom. Spanish olives, fermented with imaginative flavourings. Like Alberquinas with chimichuri. Or large Gordal olives in a spicy Asian style. They even have labneh and even better, spicy labneh balls in an envelope of herbs susbended in olive oil. For meat lovers? Cured chorizo in oil.

Ever with his finger on the pulse, all the takeaway containers are plant dervied and compostable.
The stand up fridges are present and well stocked. From drinks like Kombucha house made or other brands. To water or dairy Kefirs. If fermentation is a subject you want to explore, Ferment 9 has the necessary kit.
With this second location, Ferment 9 is making Barcelona a fermentation destination. Quite a feat given that ferments were largely not a thing before he set up shop.
